The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
    Alan Kay

There was once a farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.” The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”

The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.” The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”

The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad — because you never know what will be the consequence of the misfortune; or, you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.
Chinese Proverb as told by Alan Watts

The person who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.

A boat was docked in a tiny fishing village. A tourist wearing expensive sunglasses and a fancy watch walked by, complimented the fisherman on his catch, and asked how long it took.

"Not very long," the fisherman replied.

"But why don't you stay out longer to catch more fish?" the tourist asked.

The fisherman explained that his modest catch was enough to meet his family's needs.

"But what do you do with the rest of your time?" the tourist asked.

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife in the afternoon," the fisherman replied. "Then, in the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, share a few laughs, play the guitar, and sing a few songs. I have a full life."

The tourist jumped in, "I have an MBA, and I can help you. You should spend more time fishing and sell the extra fish to buy a larger boat."

"And then what?" asked the fisherman.

"With the extra money from your larger catch, you can eventually buy a second boat, and a third boat, and so on until you have an entire fleet," the tourist replied. "Then, instead of selling your fish to a middleman, you can negotiate directly with the processing plants before eventually opening your own. Then you can move to the city and direct your huge new enterprise."

"How long will that take?" the fisherman asked.

"About 20 years, 25 at the most," the tourist said.

"And after that?" the fisherman asked.

"Well, that's when it gets exciting!" the tourist exclaimed. "When your business gets really big, you can sell your company's stock to the public and make millions!"

"Millions, really? Then what?" the fisherman asked again.

"After that, you'll be able to retire, move to a tiny village along the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, enjoy a siesta with your wife, and spend your evenings laughing and playing guitar with your friends."

Yesterday was upsetting. So, today, let’s try something different.

Imagine you're in the one place on earth that brings you the most comfort and peace. Right beside you, sharing this moment, are the people whom you love most and who have made you feel most loved.

Let yourself be truly present in that space.

Feel the love you all share and know that, in this space, you are always together, always safe, and loved unconditionally.

Now, close your eyes and take three… deep… slow… breaths…

Whatever is happening in your neck of the woods, know that this space of peace and love is never more than a few deep breaths away.
